Merchant Ag Better Connects Federated’s Businesses
Mar 07, 2022

Federated is now using Merchant Ag, a new system that “will tie our three businesses – agronomy, energy, and retail – together,” said Kelly Meyer, Federated’s business service specialist.
With this well-researched and newly implemented upgrade to Federated’s computer system, “we will gain better visibility in our business, profitability [for the co-op], and help improve overall customer service,” said Meyer. Merchant Ag will help the co-op manage business better, ultimately benefiting growers and other patrons of the co-op.
And what are those benefits?
For example, when a custom job order for spreading or spraying goes through the system, Merchant Ag will notify the customer via email when the spraying/spreading job is complete; then the customer will receive an invoice for the job “almost right away,” said Meyer. The process will become virtually seamless as orders, custom applications, billing, and communication are managed within Merchant Ag. It will “definitely make our business better in the future,” Meyer added.
“We as a co-op are really looking forward to working with Merchant Ag,” she said. “Inventory will be better managed, and we will be able to leverage [supplies at the various Federated] locations while we are placing orders for products” customers need.
The excitement over the capabilities of Merchant Ag is real, Meyer noted, and “we are all hoping our patrons will enjoy the new program as much as we do.”

- All co-op purchases will be billed on one easy-to-read statement.
- Online business interactions will be easier and more accessible. As the system is fully implemented, patrons and growers will be able to place orders online.
- Growers who use FieldAlytics, Federated’s program for precision ag services, will be able to “talk to Merchant Ag,” said Meyer, for their farm services and billing.
